CEO of Alimetry, Prof of Surgery, Director of the Surgical Engineering Lab
Today we have Prof Greg O’Grady on the show! He’s Prof of Surgery, directs the Surgical Engineering Lab at the University of Auckland, and is a general and lower gastrointestinal surgeon. His research program has led to the launch of 2 start-ups. He is co-founder and currently CEO of Alimetry and Chief Scientific Officer at The Insides Company.
He’s sharing what he’s learnt in his ‘baptism of fire’ in transitioning from a research academic to CEO of a biotech company. If you’re trying to juggle lots of competing roles and interests then this episode is for you.
Here’s what we talk about.
- What has driven the changing nature of his career
- The differing working environments in academia versus in a company
- The importance of culture in all working environments
- Trusting team members with skills in different domain areas then yours
- Learning how and when to let go of some roles
We also get into the benefits of being an introvert when you are a leader.
